Job Overview

The Store Cleaner (SC) is responsible for carrying out efficient and thorough cleaning on a daily basis within the store as well as giving support to the store staff as required.


  • Ensures a high standard of cleanliness is maintained throughout the store (sales floor, warehouse, offices, canteen, toilets, ) On a daily basis
  • Cleans, dusts, washes or polishes furniture, ledges, window sills, external surfaces of cupboards, shelves and fitments
  • Sweeps the floors with brushes or dust control mops, polishes and sprays the floors when needed with the right cleaning products
  • Mops the floors with the appropriate tools and cleaning products and ensures the toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks are clean
  • Gathers and empties waste bins in the designated collection points
  • Uses electrically powered scrubbing and polishing machines to scrub (when present) with the described products
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Ensures appropriate safety signs are used at all times
  • Reports damages and minor maintenance requirements such as light bulbs replacements, leaking wash basins To the Store Manager (SM)
  • Hands over any lost property to the SM or Security follows HACCP and health and safety regulations
  • Greets customers in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Directs customers to the appropriate product allocation when asked
  • Alerts security or store staff when any suspicious customer movement within the stor
  • Reports to the Store Manager


  • Educated to secondary school level
  • Previous cleaning experience preferably in a retail or industrial environment

Required skills:

  • Able to complete cleaning tasks quickly and thoroughly
  • Able to competently use industrial cleaning equipment
  • Good attention to detail
  • Have a high cleaning standard and work independently
  • Energy, drive and a strong can-do attitude (getting -it-done mentally)
