Job Overview

The Merchandiser (MER) is responsible for displaying the products (SKUs, boxes) according to the Merchandize rules and plan grams, as decided by the Commercial dept. The MER ensures the available stock is displayed at the sales area, accessible to customers, and that the shelves are clean. The MER understands the impact of merchandizing on the sales thoroughly.


  • Follows and respects the established routing & grouping, plan grams set by the Space manager (Commercial dept.)
  • Brings the goods from the backroom (store warehouse) to the sales floor after they are released by the deputy GRM
  • Displays products on the shelves, baskets, pallets, and other kind of displays according to the Merchandize rules
  • Cuts the fronts from the boxes to enable customers to take the goods pieces out of the box easily
  • Ensures the timely merchandisingofpromos, in & out and seasonal goods and their removal after the selling period expires
  • Prepares so-called combo promotions
  • Checks the shelf life of goods on a daily basis following the provided schedule
  • Assures freshness regarding the perishable products by taking out the non-fresh and low quality products
  • Cleans the shelves regularly
  • Keeps the back room clean and properly organized, together with the Goods receivers.
  • Takes all empty cartons, plastics and other waste to the designated wastage area
  • Works together with the Merchandisers / Promoters from the suppliers
  • Informs the Merchandise Leader regarding shortages
  • Reports information regarding customers’ reactions to products to the Merchandise Leader.
  • Provides all goods with the actual, clear and clean price communications (price tags, price boards, discount communications, price rails, price stands, profiles, and any other kind of price communications) according to the Merchandize rules
  • Ensures all other indoor communications are present, actual, clean and readable for the customers.
  • Removes expired, damaged and perished goods and follows the write off procedure strictly
  • Checks the temperatures of chillers and freezers daily and records the temperatures
  • Counts the stock physically (box-by-box and loose pieces) and registers the counting
  • Counts the differences between the physical counting and system information once more
  • Supports the Goods receivers to equalize the workload and Cashier team
  • Reports to the Merchandise Leader
  • Reports in a professional way to improve the business


  • At least an OND or HND degree in management or social science courses
  • Experience in retail merchandizing, warehousing
