Providing supply of and attracting demand for a highly skilled workforce in Edo state.
Implementing a coordinated and effective approach to skills development and job creation in Edo State.
EdoJobs2.0, a Skills Development Programme initiated by The Edo State Government, was re-launched on the 8th of March, 2018 to transform the wellbeing of the society and its economy through various means.
Since its inception, EdoJobs has created jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for over 35,000 individuals in various roles including agriculture, traffic management, accounting, administration, ICT, estate management, sales and many others.
Some of the aims include putting an end to unemployment in the state through job creation, increase in private sector involvement, employability trainings, skill acquisition programmes and aiding business growth.
These advantages are to be enjoyed by Edo residents such as youths, graduates, undergraduates, underemployed and all who hope to build capacity for employability by learning certain skills that will enhance their productivity.
The EdoCre8 initiative will support aspiring and existing entrepreneurs registered on EdoJobs with skills needed for their business' success and growth. While the SkillUp Initiative aims at upgrading vocational institutions in Edo State to world-class skill delivery standards by training instructors, upgrading existing structures & providing better conditions for apprentices to be able to take flight after the period of training.
EdoJobs partnered with various private companies, like SLOT Academy, IFES Foundation, LawAuto, Leana Garage Ltd, Levant Soap Factory, OxFam, GeniusHub & SabiHub amongst others, to have a large amount of interested individuals, aspiring/existing entrepreneurs to get properly trained on any of the technical & business skills available.
Among the reasons behind these initiatives put together for Edo residents is to attract investment and enterprises into Edo State thereby impacting positively on Nigeria's GrossDomestic Product and to have a well-equipped workforce to fill the upcoming job roles as the investors setup their businesses.
In spite of the many challenges faced in the country, The "Relaunch of EdoJobs 2.0" which held on the 8th of March, 2018 has set a new path for all Edo residents, all thanks to His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose commitment to tackling the menace of unemployment in the state has been relentless.
EdoJobs was established in March 2017 and commenced operations fully as a programme within the same period. Edo Jobs was birthed as a practical and strategic step to realize His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki's campaign promise of 200, 000 jobs to unemployed residents in the State. He made the promise in credible belief that Government can create an investor friendly and economically viable environment for business and industry to thrive thereby providing the needed jobs for the teeming residents in the State.
An exercise to register unemployed citizens across all eighteen (18) LGA’s of Edo state in a database was carried out in March 2017. Over 150, 000 people were registered over the duration of the exercise. Currently, around 200,000 citizens have been registered in the database and over 30,000 beneficiaries have been willfully engaged by employers and facilitators from all sectors.
EdoJobs has since grown to be a robust and acceptable platform for the registration of jobseekers and providers in the state and maintain an accurate database, as well as serving as an effective medium between both, creation of employment/engagement opportunities, training and skill acquisition programmes, etc.
EdoCre8 is a one stop hub which is intended to serve as the engine of growth for entrepreneurs. Through our programmes, partnership with other entrepreneurship promotion organizations and connections to the Edo Start Up community, the goal is to enhance productivity and self-engagement amongst the teeming population through creation and enabling of SME, MSME’s, provision of business advisory and financial services, ease of access to procurement of loans and grants, enlisting and notifications for startup competitions. The programme is designed around working with individual entrepreneurs to help them grow and also merge similar businesses and schemes into clusters and create a pyramidal value chain that cuts across rural-urban drifts and sectors including Agro, Manufacturing, etc as well as partnering with investors, intermediaries and other donors to create the enabling ecosystem for entrepreneurial ventures to thrive.
